I arrived in Istanbul Ataturk International Airport on Etihad's EY097 on 2nd April.
Although I was completely exhausted after getting the bike freighted, celebrating a birthday or three and trying to say goodbye to as many friends as possible I stayed awake for the flight watching Moneyball and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. The latter being a good send-off with its scenes set in the UAE being a reminder of where I have been over the past few years.
After being ripped-off a little getting transport to the Blue Regency Hotel I was welcomed with the UPS package of my professionally and speedily prepared Green Card and Comprehensive Insurance for travel throughout Europe at the hotel check-in. The staff at Alessie Insurance were wonderful ensuring the timely delivery of the necessary paperwork which would be necessary the following day to collect my bike. I decided to relax and prepare myself for the following day collecting my bike which I anticipated would be another experience to remember. I wandered the streets of Bakirkoy which is a busy and popular location with several new developments taking place, a full harbour and train and bus connections into the city centre.

After wandering the streets for some time and getting an understanding of what was around me it was time to slow down, have an Efes and get ready for dinner and a sleep - tomorrow was going to be a big one. So I found Alamode Teras Cafe & Bar overlooking the street where I was staying. Although the day had been sunny and warm with the sun setting the chill in the air became quite noticeable and it was too cold to sit outside drinking more beers. Dinner was simple and tasty although it was noticeable how few people were around - I was one of about 6 customers and I hope things pick up for the restaurants as the seasons warm up.
